Public Skating

Public and adult skating is only offered at the John Rhodes Community Centre and Northern Community Centre.

Sledge Skating is offered at John Rhodes Arena 2.

Skating Schedules

September-April Skating Schedule

All schedules are subject to change due to facility needs.

Shinny

Shinny is an informal game of hockey played on ice. There is usually minimal equipment needed to play and no goaltender.

September-April: Fridays 9-10 pm

No shinny on Oct 20, Nov 17, Nov 24, Jan 19, Mar 22, Mar 29, Apr 12, Apr 26

To play, you will need: 

  • A CSA approved hockey helmet, mandatory for all participants
  • If you’re under 19 years old, a full face guard is recommended
  • Hockey gloves and neck guard is highly recommended for all participants
  • Your own skates, sticks and pucks
  • All participants must pay prior to accessing the ice surface. Proceed to facility front desk to make payment. See fees below.

Shinny Fees

Adult - $4.50
Student/Senior - $4.00
Youth (18 and under) - $3.50

Shinny Rules

  • No goalies in shinny
  • No body contact
  • Puck is not to be raised off the ice
  • No slap shots
  • Only one puck is allowed on the ice during a game
  • No on-ice monitoring/referring is provided
  • Equal ice time ensures everyone gets the most out of the program. We ask players to self-monitor shifts to a maximum of 3-4 minutes in length.
  • Display good sportsmanship, respect all players and facility property.
